Welcome to the Houghton Art Club Website
Houghton Art Club was established in 1987 with the objective of promoting, boosting, and encouraging art in all its forms, both within and outside the club.
Houghton Art Club is located in Houghton-le-Spring, near Sunderland. We have regular participation in local art events and exhibitions. There is a strong connection between the club and other local organisations.
Our club is known for being welcoming and friendly to new members, whether they are new to painting or experienced artists.
The Art Club meets every week at Houghton Miners Welfare Hall, which is a part of Houghton Health and Wellbeing Centre. At any given time, there are approximately 40 members from all over the Sunderland area, with a few from County Durham.
We want members to feel that this is not only an opportunity to enjoy an evening of painting, but also a social event where friendships can be formed. Although tuition is not provided, members make an effort to assist and advise each other.
Professional artists host workshops and demonstrations at the Club each year. Our activities can include trips to art galleries, day trips, places of interest, or just for fun. Christmas parties and nights out are part of the club's activities.
We regularly hold exhibitions throughout the year (see our exhibitions page) where the public can view our work.

The Art Club will be moving temporarily into the dance studio located in the Sports and Wellness Centre.
The start time will be moved to 7.15 p.m. and will run for the duration of January.
The Art Club has booked workshops for this year with the following professional artists: Brian Ramsay, Greta Vilidaite, Peter Wooley, Jo Pickering, Joe Hush, and Jason Skills.
More artists may be added to this list, covering watercolours, acrylics and possibly other media.
